RYAN: For a small roll out of new films this weekend, it was pretty big box office for the the new romcom "Couples Retreat."
CAROLINE: And I hated that film!RYAN: I remember. It's a popular genre nonetheless and the casting was brill.
CAROLINE: ...just incredibly underused.
RYAN: It's weird because sometimes huge stars are in movies that do not open well, like "The Invasion." And then there are poor movies that do great their first weekend out.
CAROLINE: Well Nicole Kidman is a big star but she's never really been a box office draw.
RYAN: Our whole pop culture system is so backward.
CAROLINE: Why are you trying to deconstruct pop culture right now? Let's move on. "Zombieland" had another great week.
RYAN: It's a sleeper hit. And the "Toy Story" films did better than I expected them to the last couple weekends. The third is primed to hit huge for sure.
CAROLINE: "Cloudy with a Chance of I Don't Care" is also turning out to be a strong one.
RYAN: They'll probably make a sequel to that too.
CAROLINE: I'm really ready for the good movies and by good, I mean Oscar contenders.
RYAN: Me too. 'Tis the season.
